When Derek Lam introduced himself to the fashion industry in 2003, he made such a splashy entrance that he instantaneously became one of the designers to watch out for. He made fast fans out of Natalie Portman and Charlize Theron, and everyone from these celebs to style disciples eagerly anticipated the newest collection from Derek Lam. Even his accessories became as much awaited as his clothes, if not more so.
We first got a glimpse of the Derek Lam Nadia Hobo at Derek Lam’s 2010 Resort collection. For something that everyone had such high hopes for, did Derek Lam deliver?
Well, yes and no.
We’ve seen this design before, particularly on one of his previous bags, the Davina bag. I guess it’s alright to rehash old designs if it’s your design, but I kind of want more from this designer specially noted for his creativity and originality. Also, the bag is a bit odd-shaped, being too long in the body and too short at the handles:

It has got that appealing long and lean silhouette, but those short handles would make it sit too high up your armpits. Never a good look for anyone.
Nevertheless, the Derek Lam Nadia Hobo will fit a lot of your stuff and its structure will keep it neatly flat against your body. Hobo bags are notoriously sloppy looking, but this one from Derek Lam promises to keep its shape.
The Derek Lam Nadia Hobo is available at Shopbop.com for $1,090.00.
