Antik Batik Archives

I’ve been covering a lot of fringe bags and purses here on this blog and I don’t think I need to tell you that fringe – especially on handbags! – is a great accessory for this summer season. Fringe can make tank tops, shorts, dresses and skirts more interesting, and fringe accessories can certainly liven up any summer outfit. Just ask celebs Taylor Swift, Kate Hudson, Miranda Kerr, Lindsay Lohan and Vanessa Hudgens who have all used fringe handbags to pair with their summery ensembles.

So to start your summer right, hop on over to Shopbop and check out the fringe handbags they’ve marked down in their “Get Set for Summer” sale. Lots of great selections there and many of the bags that I’ve previously featured here are now going for as much as 50% off!

I’ve went ahead and perused the sale rack for you. Here my top 10 fringe handbag picks from the Shopbop “Get Set for Summer” sale:

A lot of Stephanie Pratt’s paparazzi pictures are of her on the set of the reality TV show “The Hills”, filming “The Hills”, and basically doing everything revolving around “The Hills”. It doesn’t matter if the show’s become irrelevant, its popularity has gone way down, and even the main star has completely severed herself from the show, it’s Stephanie Pratt’s claim to fame so ratings, relevancy, and self-respect be damned.

Anyway, I’m only here to talk about the gorgeous Gerard Darel fringe hobo that she’s been seen toting around on the set of “The Hills”. I last saw it nearly 4 months ago in December 2009 and it just recently came up again in Stephanie Pratt’s April 9 candids:

That’s more like it: Stephanie Pratt back view with the Gerard Darel in full view

Oh and these are the pictures where I saw the Gerard Darel fringe hobo originally. The first one was taken in December 2009 as I said, and the second one is a paparazzi picture dated January 15, 2010:

I guess you won’t notice that parts of this scene were filmed months apart from each other once it’s edited, but when you put the two pictures side by side, you’ll notice the little changes in Stephanie’s hair and makeup.

Anyway, back to more important things like the Gerard Darel fringe hobo:

The French label Gerard Darel is notoriously difficult to find outside of France. There are some online stores that carry Gerard Darel, but their stocks are very limited and the fly off the shelves so quickly. Some celebrity fans like Eva Longoria have reportedly flown to Paris just so she could shop for Gerard Darel pieces herself.

If you can’t find Gerard Darel handbags anywhere like a lot of people, there are always alternatives – cheaper ones at that – of course. Here are 3 purple fringe hobo bags, 2 which are also made of purple suede:

Antik Batik Bongo Bag, $345.00

Prezzo 3421, $33.45

GUESS Dream Drawstring, $71.99

Like any other 17-year old, Miley Cyrus loves to experiment with her clothes and accessories. But unlike most 17-year olds, Miley can afford to change her entire wardrobe everyday if she wanted to.

Apparently tired of the grungy plaids, blacks, and combat boots she’s been seen wearing for the past few weeks, Miley has now chosen a very colorful patchwork oversized tote as the flavor of the month. She’s been spotted carrying the multi-hued, mirrored, pompom-ed hobo bag to at least 4 different photo ops, all just this March:

March 12, 2010 – Miley visits Serendipity 3 in New York with mom and sister

March 12, 2010 – Miley goes to the Gemini 14 Salon in Manhattan

March 22, 2010 – Miley grabs a bite to eat at Cafe Metro

March 22, 2010 – Miley waves to fans as she leaves the ABC Studios after guesting on “Good Morning, America”

When Miley loves something, she’s really obsessed with it.

The bag alone is gaudy, what with the mismatched shades of pink, blues, oranges, reds, and greens. The metallic disc fringe on the front of the bag is already a lot to take in but this bag’s designer didn’t think that was enough and added fluffy pink pompom balls all over it.

Just looking at the bag hurts my eyes but you know what? I think it actually looks good on Miley. This bag would most likely be considered a fashion disaster on other female celebs but with Miley’s bubbly personality and tender age, she pulls off the loud-colored oversized tote perfectly well.

I don’t think I could pull off a bag exactly like Miley’s, but here are mirror disc totes in toned-down colors and styles:

Marc by Marc Jacobs Party Girl Tribal Pixie Bucket Bag, $398.00

Diane von Furstenberg Peggy Wrap Bag, $950.00

Antik Batik Clami Pouch, $208.00

Do you like the toned-down totes or do you prefer Miley’s bag?
