I admit that when I first read the name “Junior Drake”, I initially thought that the brand was a kids’ line (yes, because of the word “junior” in it). Thankfully I had the good sense to click on the thumbnail of this Junior Drake Angela Leather Hobo Bag because wow, what a bag it is:

This is definitely no kid’s handbag. The shape is perfect, the leather looks really soft and buttery, the stitching detail is beautiful and that fringe tassel accessory makes it a great purse to feature here on Fringe Handbags.

I just had to find out more about Junior Drake and it turns out, the name was the stage name of 1950s actress Patsy Brown. The handbag line was created in honor of the legendary actress and to honor her equally legendary exuberant style. One favorite Patsy Brown story is when she was once complimented on an outfit she was wearing, she said, “Darling it’s not the dress, it’s the girl!”. The line eventually became the brand’s philosophy, changed a little to “It’s not the Bag, it’s the Girl!”.

It’s nice to have a sense of humor when it comes to fashion once in a while. Like if you had this fringe bag, called the Rock Bag from Motif 56, you’d get stares and comments about how hairy it looks or how it resembles Chewbacca. But that’s precisely why I would buy this bag, just for those crazy comments and funny stares. This is how it looks:

The fringes poking out on the straps make me shudder and they don’t look any better up close, but I can’t help but stare at it and be drawn to it:

This bag is a sure conversation starter. Someone might even come up to you and ask you if they could feel it if you had this bag. If you keep a sense of humor about it, you with this bag could even incite handbag envy in some people.

Maybe that’s why it became the must-have handbag around this time last year?

If you don’t recognize it yet, the bag that Khloe Kardashian, Jennifer Lopez, and Jessica Biel are carrying is the Stephanie bag by Diane von Furstenberg. It’s not a new bag by any means – the pictures above are between 8 months to a year old – although as I’ve said, it was the It handbag for pre-fall 2009.

I want to bring up this Diane von Furstenberg purse in this blog again because the designer has recently released easier to manage (read: smaller) versions of this extremely oversized handbag. You won’t be able to fit your kitchen sink in them anymore, but I think the new designs are much cuter with their wide array of colors and an added fringe tassel pull closure.

America’s best-selling country/pop singer of 2008 Taylor Swift was in Australia last week for her “Fearless” world tour. She arrived in Sydney February 5 with her entourage and a sweet fringe hobo bag in tow:

It’s a really gorgeous bag. It’s made of super soft genuine goat leather and those twisted shoulder straps will help take the strain off the shoulders. Hilary Duff is Fly (and Keeps Dry) with the Antik Batik Bongo Fringed Leather Bag

Paparazzi spotted Hilary Duff getting out of her car yesterday, a rainy Friday in LA. Her hair was understandably in messy top knot (as she was on her way to a salon), but the rest of her outfit was as usual, impeccable:

Hilary updates the 90s plaid flannel shirt look with a very now pair of liquid leggings, stiletto booties, and not one but two handbags on the nook of both of her arms.

Why does Hilary have to carry two handbags to a salon? Maybe she doesn’t like sharing salon tools with other people and brings her own? Maybe she’s carrying an outfit change to match her new hair after getting her hair did? Maybe she just has a lot of things?
