So many celebs have been spotted dining at Katsuya recently. I wonder why? Either the food is that good or word has gotten out that Katsuya is now one of the places to be seen.

Gwen Stefani sure did use the perfect accessories when she attended the Diego Della Valle’s Celebration of Tod’s Boutique and MOCA’s Jeffrey Deitch last April 15, 2010:

The 40-year old singer and fashion designer paired her shining silver dress with L.A.M.B. Zan strappy heels, a L.A.M.B. Surrey Clutch, and the best accessory of them all, her delectable rockstar husband Gavin Rossdale.

Yum. Now back to the clutch.

As you can see from Gwen Stefani’s pictures above, the clutch is pretty big almost to the point of being oversized. The fringe tassel is attached to a zipper along the sides of the clutch. The main access point is obviously the flap in front, but it’s not clear if that exterior zipper makes the the clutch roomier when opened. I hope it does because otherwise, the whole point of making the clutch oversized would be useless.

The coal color of this clutch matches with Gwen Stefani’s silver dress and black heels, but I think the other colors, particularly the royal, are more eye-catching:

Minnie Driver Gets Down to Business with a Yellow Fringe Handbag

Fringe isn’t strictly limited to bohemian chic. When styled right, it can be transformed into business casual attire. The ever-so-cool and ever-so-stylish Miss Minnie Driver did just that for this outfit she was spotted wearing on April Fool’s Day:

Minnie Driver wore this black blazer + white jeans + ankle boots getup to have lunch at the Le Pain Quotidien restaurant in West Hollywood, CA. The orange scarf and the handbag – both with fringe details – dress down the look a notch and lend a soft touch to her outfit. The result is a casual enough look for just a lunch date but still dressy enough for a business lunch meeting.

As always, Minnie Driver’s style is right on point. She combined an unusual color palette of orange and yellow with her accessories but she somehow still made it work against the black and white backdrop made by her blazer and jeans. Her outfit makes her accessories pop and her accessories add color to her clothes.

How many times have we featured Vanessa Hudgens and her fringe purses in this blog? I’ve counted a total of 6 times and with Vanessa’s love for fringe as continuous as her love for boyfriend Zac Efron, I think we’ll be seeing more of her here on FringeHandbags in the future.

Not that I mind and I hope you don’t mind either. Vanessa is a true connoisseur of boho chic, and fringe, of course, falls right into that style category. Fringe has always been a part of Vanessa Hudgens’ wardrobe ever since she became famous and I salute her for sticking with and not dropping fringe even when she’s already working with a stylist.

As for the outfit she’s wearing in these March 31 pictures, this is the classic Vanessa Hudgens off-duty look. I personally wouldn’t use a brown bag with an all-black outfit but on Vanessa, the brown with the black makes her look like she’s saying “I didn’t put too much effort into what I’m wearing”. Looking like you just threw on whatever you could get your hands on and walking out the door looking fabulous is a requisite for any style icon wannabe now, and Vanessa Hudgens has clearly mastered it.

Ever since her hosting stint on SNL, paparazzi interest in Jennifer Lopez has been on the upswing again. We’re seeing more and more of her in the media and one of her most recent “sightings” was just 2 days ago at the pre-Oscar bash sponsored by Grey Goose Vodka and RADD (Recording Artists Against Drunk Driving):

Jennifer Lopez stuck close to her husband Marc Anthony most of the night but the 40-year old singer/actress couldn’t help but turn heads in her gold Kaufman Franco dress and YSL platforms. Fashion rule books would tell Jennifer to keep her accessories simple so as not to clash with her already sparkly dress, but a star like her can carry around a remarkable conversation piece like the Etro Feather Fringe Clutch and still get away with it.

Marc Jacobs Says More Fringe in Store for Spring 2010 Part 3 of 3

Here’s the final installment in the 3-part blog post series on the Marc Jacobs Spring 2010 RTW fashion show.

I had to break down Marc Jacob’s Spring RTW collection into 3 parts because he sent 3 different kinds of fringe down that runway. The first kind were the super long fringes, the second were the bunches of fringe tassels, and the last kind were these long strips of leather or beaded strings that were a foot or more in length:

Although not as overly fringe-y as the first handbags that came out on the runway, these strings and strips achieve the same effect as the super long fringes. They swayed dreamily alongside the models and the handbags, and looked as graceful and as dramatic.

Even though Marc Jacobs was going the more elegant route with this collection, I appreciate that he did not over-embellish the handbags with girly details like he did in a previous show. He could’ve easily constructed those strips and strings out of ribbons, chiffon or gossamer, but instead stuck with the same leather material and let the handbags speak for themselves.

Extra long wasn’t the only length that fringes came out in on the Marc Jacobs Spring 2010 runway. Fringes also appeared in really short pieces, all bunched up in tassels that look like they spurted out of the sides of the handbags:

The combination of the short fringe tassels and the eyelets on the handbags has a repulsive, almost grotesque effect on me. They make the handbag look alive, like a living creature that crawled out of a deep, dark hole. Nevertheless, I still can’t stop staring and that’s sort of a good thing in fashion right? It makes people talk about it, give it publicity, even if what they’re saying is negative. And as the old saying goes, there’s no such thing as bad publicity.

It was an extravaganza of mile-long fringes hanging off of handbags at the Marc Jacobs Spring 2010 RTW fashion show, another sign that there’s no stopping fringe for this year:

In his interview, Marc Jacobs said that he was tired of seeing black and studs – things that his 80s-inspired fall 2009 RTW collection was very much full of. For his spring collection, Marc Jacobs went the opposite direction, saying that it was time to bring fashion back to “the theater, the ballet, and the opera”.

You can clearly see the direction he’s going in the white kabuki makeup, the hair in top knots, and the ruffle details on the clothes. The added length on the handbag fringes was definitely a big part of the creative thought process because their swishy, dramatic movements couldn’t have been just a coincidence. The super long fringes lent an elegant air to the entire collection and although not a difficult stretch by any means, made the models look as graceful as ballerinas with every step they took.

Hilary Duff is Fly (and Keeps Dry) with the Antik Batik Bongo Fringed Leather Bag

Paparazzi spotted Hilary Duff getting out of her car yesterday, a rainy Friday in LA. Her hair was understandably in messy top knot (as she was on her way to a salon), but the rest of her outfit was as usual, impeccable:

Hilary updates the 90s plaid flannel shirt look with a very now pair of liquid leggings, stiletto booties, and not one but two handbags on the nook of both of her arms.

Why does Hilary have to carry two handbags to a salon? Maybe she doesn’t like sharing salon tools with other people and brings her own? Maybe she’s carrying an outfit change to match her new hair after getting her hair did? Maybe she just has a lot of things?
